Can realistic dolls protect body satisfaction in young girls?

Ultra-thin fashion dolls may represent a risk factor for thin-ideal internalisation and body dissatisfaction amongst young girls. We asked thirty one 5- to 9-year-old girls engage in interactive play with commercially available which were either ultra-thin (Barbie Monster High) or represented putative realistic childlike shape (Lottie Dora) indicate their perceived own-body size ideal on an computer task both before after play. There was significant interaction between testing phase doll group such that playing the led girls’ ‘ideal self’ becoming thinner. A further 46 played then same again, dolls, cars. Initial again produced drop own size; however, no showed any change ideals during additional phase. These data potential benefit of representing child mass satisfaction do not support hypothesis negative impacts can be directly countered by other toys.
